Dangerous structures and public safety
Dangerous structures can be buildings, walls, fences or any other structure that because of their condition present a danger to people. Fire, impact from vehicles and severe weather can all leave structures in a dangerous condition.
What does the Council do about dangerous structures?
If you discover a dangerous structure, contact us to report it. We will inspect it as soon as we can. If we feel that the public is in immediate danger, we will arrange to have the structure made safe or cordoned off. If we have to do this, we will ask the owner to pay back our costs. Whenever we can we will get in touch with the owner and ask them to make it safe. Owners have a duty in law to maintain their property in a safe condition.
To report a dangerous structure, either:
- report a dangerous structure online on our DBCP (Derbyshire Building Control Partnership) website
- contact us online
- telephone us out-of-office hours on 01332 642203
