As a parent or carer of a child with a Special Educational Need or Disability (SEND), it can sometimes be difficult to know what support is available and who to contact to get the right help and advice.

In Derby, our aim is to work closely with parents and carers to make sure that your child has the support they need. We have a range of parent carer services that can offer different types of support to you when you need it.

Find financial support services

Caring for a child or young person with a special educational need or disability (SEND) can involve extra or unexpected costs. Financial support is available to help with these costs:

• Personal Budgets
• Personal Health Budgets 
• Early Years Inclusion Fund (EYIF)
• Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG)
• Disabled Living Allowance (DLA) 
• Carers Allowance
• Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

Derby SEND Information Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS)

Derby Special Educational Needs and Disability, Information, Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS) provides free, legally based impartial, confidential and accessible information, advice and support for children, young people and parents and carers. SENDIASS gives advice on Special Educational Needs Disabilities (SEND), health and social care. Your child does not need to have a formal diagnosis to receive this support.

Derby SEND Voice Parent Carer Forum

We work with in partnership with Derby SEND Voice to bring together a forum for parents and carers of children and young people with special education needs and disability (SEND), aged 0-25, and living in Derby city. Our mission is to use this forum to empower and give voice to parents and carers in the local community through collaboration, education and advocacy for children and young people with unique needs. Working alongside education, health, and social care, the Parent Carer Forum helps to shape services and bring about positive change.

We hold regular meetings, workshops and events both in person and online, as well as offering free access to webinars, workshops and training on a variety of subjects.
