The SEND and inclusion reforms: Derby city's response
Every child and young person deserves the opportunity to reach their potential, whatever their needs or circumstances. Achieving this depends on effective partnership working across education, health and care, making sure that services work together to meet the needs of children, young people and their families.
The government’s SEND reforms, based on the Every Child Achieving and Thriving white paper, provide an opportunity to build on work already in place and accelerate our ambition to create a system in which children and young people receive the right support, in the right place, at the right time. This is an important and gradual process, with rollout happening over the next three years, completing in 2030.
Derby’s Local SEND Reform plan has now been approved by the Department for Education; an outline of our approach can be found in this brochure, along with information on our next steps for implementation.
Our partnership in Derby will continue to work together and with children and young people, parents, carers and communities in the delivery of the SEND reforms.
We believe that Derby is in a strong position to deliver the SEND reforms. Together, we can build a more inclusive, responsive and sustainable system that earns the confidence of children and young people with SEND and their families and enables every child to achieve and thrive.
