Munio II – Mill Fleam
A new pumping station is under construction on Bass’s Rec as the final stage of the Munio Project.
The station will reduce flood risk in the city centre by pumping water from the brook into the river when levels are high. This prevents it from backing up under the city to flood roads and properties.
The project is part-funded by the England European Regional Development Fund, as part of the last European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme for the UK. It will deliver enhanced protection for around 250 commercial properties in the city centre and Pride Park.
The project will enhance habitats and biodiversity in the areas around Bass’ Recreation Ground. This includes the creation of a fish-spawning backwash lagoon.
Completion is due in early April, with the reinstatement of the land expected shortly after. This will include laying new topsoil, grass seeding and bulb planting.
