The Homelessness Reduction Act
The Homelessness Reduction Act came into effect in April 2018. This new law requires us to help prevent and relieve homelessness within 8 weeks (56 days).
If you are homeless or are likely to become homeless within the next 8 weeks then we will work with you to either help you stay where you are or find a new home.
The help we are able to give will depend on your circumstances.
We will usually help you for up to 8 weeks to try and prevent you from becoming homeless. If you do become homeless then we may be able to help you for a further 8 weeks.
There is a high demand for Council properties in Derby, and there are very few available properties. If we arrange a private tenancy, we’ll make sure that this tenancy is for at least 12 months.
