Roles in children’s residential care services
We support children and young people aged 10 – 18 across five residential children’s homes in Derby.
We’re looking for people who are caring, supportive and ambitious to join our team and help us provide outstanding care for children and young people facing challenges in their lives.
What we need from you
Supporting children and young people is incredibly rewarding but isn’t without challenges. If you’re passionate about providing excellent care, support and a safe, welcoming environment to children and young people, we want to hear from you.
Our jobs are on a rota basis so you’ll need to be comfortable working in shifts (including some over night shifts) and at weekends.
What we can offer you
A competitive salary. We offer the highest rates of pay in the public sector.
Whilst having previous experience in residential childcare is a bonus, it’s not essential. We offer comprehensive and fully supported training and qualifications, helping you to excel your career with us. If you want to start a career in residential childcare, we can support you to achieve this.
We are a caring Council. We care about the children and young people in our care and we care about you. As a Council employee you’ll have access to 24/7 employee assistance programme which offers mental health support as well as financial advice and more.

About our homes
We operate five Children’s Residential Care Homes that can accommodate up to 24 children and young people, providing a safe and welcoming place for them to live. One of our five homes specifically supports children and young people who are on the autistic spectrum or have learning difficulties.
About our children and young people
Like all children and young people, those in our care face challenges every day. Some that we care for have emotional and behavioural difficulties or display challenging behaviours.
Our focus is to meet their needs through a person-centred approach, by working to promote positive attitudes based on improving their self-worth, self-respect, and helping them excel in all aspects of their lives.
Our roles
We have three different roles available in our team:
- Residential Childcare Workers (Level 2 and 3)
- Children’s Home Deputy Managers
- Children’s Home Managers
