Report a scam

Scams are tricks used by criminals to con you, your family and friends out of money.

Scams can be by post, phone, text message or email or a scammer may turn up at your home.

It could be a scam if:

  • you are contacted unexpectedly
  • you have never heard of the lottery or competition they are talking about and didn’t buy a ticket
  • you are asked to send money in advance
  • you are told you have to decide quickly so you don’t have time to think about it or talk to family and friends before you decide
  • you are told to keep it a secret.

How do I report a scam?

If you think that you, a family member or friend have been scammed or you are aware of an ongoing scam, there are a number of places you can report it, 24 hours a day.

Action Fraud

Action Fraud is the UK’s national fraud and cyber crime reporting centre. They investigate scams and publish information about current scams.
