Council Tax Support
If you live in your own home, are a tenant on a low income or you claim benefits, you may get help to reduce your bill.
What you get depends on:
- your circumstances for example, income, number of children, current benefits, residency status
- your household income - this includes savings, pensions and your partner’s income
- if other adults live with you (apart from your partner)
- if your children live with you.
Council Tax Support (sometimes called Council Tax Reduction Scheme) replaced Council Tax Benefit in April 2013.
For further information, view our Council Tax Support Scheme 2024/25.
Single Discretionary Award Scheme
If your Council Tax Support is not enough to cover your bill, you can apply online for the new Single Discretionary Award Scheme. The scheme brings together Council Tax Hardship (CTH), Discretionary Housing Payments and the Local Assistance Scheme.
