Additional help finding childcare
What is the childcare brokerage service?
This service is for parents and carers who have previously tried to find childcare and need extra support and help.
If you are having problems finding the childcare you need or have difficulty negotiating the system, our free childcare brokerage service may be able to help. We can advise, search and liaise with childcare providers on your behalf, to help you find the childcare you need.
Childcare brokerage is a requirement of Childcare Act 2006, which means local authorities must provide extra support for families to help them access childcare. One example of this could be extra support for families where the child has special educational needs or disabilities.
What can the Childcare Brokerage Service do for you?
Our staff at the Families Information Service (FIS) can discuss your needs in detail and support you in making decisions around childcare.
We offer free, confidential and accurate information, advice and support which includes:
- listening to your concerns and understanding your child’s needs
- discussing different types of childcare options and suggesting alternatives
- highlighting the benefits of childcare settings for you and your child
- contacting childcare providers on your behalf to check for vacancies.
