ICO Enforcement Notice

On 26 August 2026, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) issued Derby City Council with an Enforcement Notice relating to delays in responding to Freedom of Information (FOI) requests. The Notice requires the Council to publish an action plan and lessons learned review setting out how compliance will be improved.

Improvement priorities

The Council's action plan focuses on:

• improving compliance with new requests
• reducing the historic backlog
• strengthening request-handling and escalation processes
• increasing training and awareness
• enhancing governance, assurance and performance monitoring

Our commitment

Derby City Council acknowledges that improvement is required and is committed to restoring and maintaining compliance with its statutory obligations. Progress against the action plan will be monitored through established governance arrangements and reported to senior leadership.
