Skip permits
The Highways Act 1980 requires skip companies to apply to the Council for a permit to place a skip on the public footway, grass verge or road.
We need at least three working days' notice to deal with an application for a permit.
A skip permit costs £44 and lasts for 28 days. This fee is non-refundable even if we have to refuse the application.
If a skip is needed for longer than 28 days, the company will have to apply again before the permit runs out and there will be another fee of £44 to cover a further 28 days.
We only allow skips to be placed in residential parking areas or parking meter bay(s) if there is no other site.
Skip companies should note that there is an extra fee of £44 if we have to inspect a skip on site that doesn't comply with the terms of the permit.
How do I apply for a skip licence?
Please note that we only accept applications from skip companies.
Individuals requiring a skip permit should arrange for the permit to be issued through their chosen Skip Company.
If you are requesting a permit for the first time you will need to provide:
- A copy of your current public liability cover, minimum of £2 million.
- A copy of your Waste Disposal Licence.
