Carelink

I‌ntroduction to Carelink and costs

Carelink is a telephone-based monitoring service provider.

Our personal alarms and pendants help you maintain your independence while also knowing that help is available if needed.

At Carelink we have caring well trained staff to take your call 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Alternatively, we can provide equipment that will send an alert to a designated mobile, on-site carer, or if you require it, a relative.‌

For more information about the telecare equipment we provide, please read the Carelink brochure. You can also view the telecare equipment on the My Care Directory, which allows you to search items and create a favourites list.

What services can you provide?

Trained operators will answer your calls, and get the most appropriate help to you. This could be from relatives, neighbours, your GP, or emergency services.

Carelink also has a team of responders who can come to your assistance as well as get in touch with your named contacts.

Our responders can:

  • safely lift you if you have fallen, using special equipment
  • check on you if there are concerns about your wellbeing
  • arrange access for emergency services.

One of our dedicated staff is always available to discuss our services. For more information on services available, have a look at the Carelink information pack.

How much does Carelink cost?

Carelink costs from £7.15 a week. This gets you a pendant alarm and access to the contact centre, depending on the level of service. There is no extra charge for installing the equipment.‌

For more detailed information on the cost of equipment we can provide, please refer to our Carelink brochure.

Who is Carelink for?

Anyone in Derby can get Carelink. It doesn’t matter if you rent or own your home.

Carelink can help if you:

  • live alone
  • have physical disabilities
  • have sensory impairment
  • are forgetful or disorientated
  • have learning disabilities
  • are at risk of violence or abuse
  • are at risk of falling
  • are concerned about bogus callers
  • have dementia which gets worse at night (called ‘sundowning’).

More information can be found in our Carelink leaflet.

Carelink lifting equipment

All Carelink customers are provided with equipment to alert the control centre for help. In the event of an emergency Carelink will send a responder to you to assess the situation, if the responder thinks that you require further assistance from the emergency services, they will organise this. If you have fallen and the responder assesses that you are safe to be lifted, they will use our specialist lifting equipment. This will assist you up and support you to a suitable safe position.

Carelink responders may use one of three types of lifting equipment

The Manger Elk

A Manger Elk is a highly portable, compact lifting cushion which can be used to assist a customer in securely rising to their feet after a fall. Due to its extremely compact size, the Mangar Elk is particularly beneficial in small spaces and is excellent for use both indoors and outdoors.

The Manger Camel

The Camel lifting cushion can lift a faller using single handed care techniques. With an inbuilt backrest the Camel offers a fully supportive lift.

The Raizer

The battery-operated mobile lifting chair helps a fallen person up to an almost standing position in a few minutes. Ideal for single handed care it requires only limited physical effort from the operator aside from a helping hand. A person who has fallen and cannot get up again is lifted comfortably to a sitting or almost standing position in a way that supports the entire body throughout the process. The lifting mechanism shows consideration for the importance of being helped up in a dignified and safe way.
