Homeshare
Derby City Council in collaboration with Two Generations, are working to introduce a new Homeshare scheme to the city.
Homeshare is a programme bringing together older people looking for companionship, with a friendly young person.
Two Generations is a Homeshare organisation. They match people who live alone, (typically older people or those with disabilities) and have a spare room, with a younger person or student. In exchange, for providing an overnight presence, companionship and some help with household chores the younger person benefits from affordable accommodation.
Homesharing has many benefits for both parties including improved mental and physical wellbeing, companionship, maintaining independence, and reduced social isolation.
Benefits of Homeshare
- Community connection - it fosters relationships between different generations.
- Cost-effective - helps both parties save money and share resources.
- Independence - older adults can stay in their homes longer with help.
