Licensed premises gaming machine permits apply to premises with a Licensing Act 2003 on-premises alcohol licence.
There is no prescribed limit on the number of machines, but applicants must specify the number they are applying for.

Applying for a notification of two machines or less
Alcohol licensed premises have an automatic entitlement to make up to two category C or D machines available for use without requiring a permit.

Applying for a permit for three or more machines
Licensed premises wishing to make available more than two category C or D machines must apply for an alcohol licensed premises gaming machine permit.
An application may not be made if a premises licence, issued under the Gambling Act, is already in effect at the premises.
Where a permit authorises a specified number of gaming machines in particular premises, this will effectively replace, and not be in addition to, any automatic entitlement to two machines. You must complete the Gaming machine permit - for more than 2, new variation transfer application form and send this with the relevant payment. You will have to pay for the application fee.
There is no annual fee for two or less gaming machines, but you will have to pay an annual fee for three or more machines. The first annual fee is due 30 days after the permit is granted. Subsequent annual fees are due on the anniversary of the granting of the permit.

If you have paid by debit/credit card or by bacs before you have submitted your application form then you must include a copy of your receipt with the application. Any application received without the payment will not be processed.
There is no time limit for a permit for two machines or less, unless the holder of the on-premises alcohol licence changes.
Permits for three or more machines will be valid for 10 years and you can then renew it.
