Self-build and custom housebuilding register
The Council are required to keep a register of individuals and community groups (associations of individuals) who want to acquire a serviced plot for self-build homes or custom-build homes.
Self-build housing usually means that you are directly involved in the design and construction of your new home. Custom-build usually means working closely with a developer to build a home to your specific requirements. There may be variations between the two but self/custom-build homes do not include those built by developers and purchased off-plan. A serviced plot is a parcel of land that has access to the public highway and connections for electricity, water and wastewater.
The register enables us to identify the demand for these types of housing and to develop housing and planning policies to support appropriate projects. Please note that inclusion on the register does not guarantee that we will provide a plot of land or that planning permission will be granted for the dwellings should land be identified.
Should you wish to apply to be included on the register, please download and complete the Self-build and custom housebuilding registration form.
Please note:
- If you are applying on behalf of an association details of all association members need to be completed on the final page of this form.
- This is not an online form - responses will need to be sent by email or post to the Council's address.
