Stage hypnotism guidance
Do I need a licence?
If you give an exhibition, demonstration or performance of hypnotism you will need to comply with the Hypnotism Act 1952 (as amended).
This requires that you obtain authorisation from us if you are giving an exhibition, demonstration or performance of hypnotism:
- on any person
- or in connection with entertainment to which the public are admitted, whether by payment or otherwise.
A separate application must be made by the person who will be carrying out the act of hypnotism for each premises or venue they intend to be used.
Permission from the owner of the premises where the activity will take place is not required as part of the application process.
How much does a licence cost?
There is no fee for a hypnotism licence.
How long does a licence take to be issued?
It takes approximately four weeks to process a hypnotism application.
No hypnotism activities can take place until your application has been approved and a licence issued.
