Annual report
The purpose of our annual report is to provide you, as local residents and Council Tax payers, with information on our priorities and budget, overall performance, key achievements and service improvements that we have made over the last year.
The Council Plan sets out how we will deliver on our priorities in terms of actions and performance measures. The plan is monitored throughout the year and progress on what we have achieved is reported through the Annual Report.

How do we ensure good governance?
The Annual Report is a fundamental part of our governance framework. Corporate governance is about doing the right things in the right way. It’s about demonstrating valid reasons for our actions and decisions. As a public authority, we are responsible for ensuring that our business is conducted in accordance with the law and proper standards and that public money is safeguarded and properly accounted for, and is used economically, efficiently and effectively. It requires us to have robust systems and processes, effective leadership and high standards of behaviour, a culture based on openness and honesty, and an external focus on the needs of service users and the public.
We have developed and maintained an up-to-date Local Code of Governance which sets out how we comply with good corporate governance and identifies key documents that demonstrate this. We are required to prepare an Annual Governance Statement (AGS) in order to report publicly on the extent to which we comply with the code, including how we monitor the effectiveness of the governance arrangements in the year, and on any planned changes for the coming period.
We have extended our Annual Report to include the AGS and other key governance documents that help you, as local residents and Council Tax payers, to see how the Council has managed its affairs and resources.

Local Code of Corporate Governance 2017
All local authorities are required to maintain a Local Code of Corporate Governance (Local Code). The purpose of the Local Code is to set out our commitment to the principles of good governance as set out in “Delivering Good Governance in Local Government Framework 2016”, published by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) in association with the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives (SOLACE).
