Assisted bin collection
We understand that some disabled people or those with temporary impairments may need help putting their bins out on bin day. We also know pregnancy can cause difficulties when moving the bin.
An assisted collection is where our frontline crews help collect your bin from an agreed collection point, empty the bin and return the bin back to the agreed collection point. This service is free of charge for people who qualify for it.
The quickest and easiest way to apply for an assisted bin collection is online.
Alternatively, you can telephone 01332 640000. Those who are hard of hearing or deaf can use our textphone: 07490 341 584. After submitting your request, you may be contacted or visited by a member of the waste management team regarding the eligibility of your request, or to make sure your collection point is safe for our crews to access.
If you qualify for an assisted collection, this is what we need you to do:
- Identify a collection point, where the bins that you need us to empty are kept together.
- The route to and from the collection point should be accessible and free from obstructions. Wherever possible, the collection point and the access to and from the collection point is to be a hard standing, to avoid our team causing any damage to grassed areas.
- Make sure we have access to the agreed collection point on collection day.
- No dogs or other pets are to be loose while we are collecting and returning your bin, apart from assistance dogs. Please also make sure that the area where our team needs to access is free from animal fouling.
- Let us know immediately if your circumstances change or if you are moving house.
- For ongoing assisted collections, we will send you a renewal reminder every 24 months.
